My Kitchen Rules’ Alisha and Deanne speak out after pigeon disaster: ‘Sweet karma’

On Monday night Jane and Shane’s ambitious fine-dining menu unravelled, sending the stylish foodies crashing out of the My Kitchen Rules competition and saving rivals Alisha and Deanne from elimination.

While the NSW team earned praise for their plating and presentation, their bold pigeon main course proved their undoing. Served badly overcooked and dry, the dish fell disastrously short of expectations, sealing their fate in the competition.

For South Australian “bogan besties” Alisha and Deanne, however, it was a night to savour. After facing harsh criticism from Jane and Shane over their own plating, the mums made no secret of their delight at watching their rivals crumble under the pressure.

“I don’t know how to put it into words … but amazing. Absolutely perfect,” Deanne told 7NEWS.com.au.

“Sweet, sweet karma served up,” Alisha added.

The pair said Jane and Shane’s critical comments throughout the competition had led the other teams and judges to expect a high standard from the self-assured foodies.

“The way it all sort of hit and just seeing Jane’s face, I couldn’t even feel sorry for her. I was just laughing inside,” Alisha said.

The night quickly turned sour for Jane and Shane when their highly anticipated main course went disastrously wrong.

After discovering their pigeon was overcooked and dry, Jane declared: “The pigeon is mummified.” Distraught, she retreated to her room to compose herself, admitting she felt like a failure.

A last-ditch rescue attempt using a pressure cooker failed to save the dish, leaving the pair with no choice but to serve the bird as it was. Presented with its claw still on the plate, the feedback was brutal.

“You talked a big game and you desecrated your pigeons,” Alisha said, while fellow contestant Angus said his bird looked as though it had “been in the crematorium”.

Colin confirmed the pigeon was overcooked, while Manu admitted he could not find a positive thing to say about it.

For Alisha and Deanne, the collapse of the team that had previously dished out criticism was difficult to watch without a sense of satisfaction.

“I think she cried a bit out of embarrassment, because we were the ones to take them out,” Deanne said.

The guest teams awarded Jane and Shane just 20 out of 50, with Alisha and Deanne giving them a particularly low score of three. The judges added 30 out of 60, leaving the NSW pair with a final tally of 50 — well behind Alisha and Deanne’s 68.

“I don’t think you could wipe the smile off our face,” Deanne said as the results came in.

“We were the underdogs and everyone’s telling us we’re going home first and then we were the ones to take Jane and Shane out … that was amazing,” Alisha added.

Leaderboard toppers Tiffany and Giancarlo and runners-up Mary and Golden are now fast-tracked to Kitchen HQ.

Alisha and Deanne, Angus and Simon and Krysten and Lucy will now face three new gatecrasher teams.

Harrison and Oliver are the smoothest of best mates, ready to serve up a serious dose of style in the MKR kitchen.

After a chance encounter at their local brewery six years ago, the pair quickly bonded over a shared obsession with food, craft beer, fashion and music. With their signature vintage aesthetic and eccentric edge, these two bring the vibes.

Bar manager Harrison is charming, quick-witted and the life of the party. He brings a style and eccentric energy to the kitchen. He lives for slow-cooked feasts and the perfect beer pairing.

Oliver is a quirky, razor-sharp bottle shop attendant with an intellect as refined as the wines he sells. With a curated eye for fashion, Oliver dons bold suit jackets, patterned shirts and prescription sunnies, arguably the best-dressed person in any room.

The boys specialise in curated pairings where Oliver’s Italian roots (handmade pasta and rich, savoury meats) meet Harrison’s love for hearty, slow-cooked dishes.

Mother-and-son duo Sheridan and Ted are incredibly close, with plenty of banter and bickering keeping things entertaining both in and out of the kitchen.

Beneath it all is a deep bond. Ted is the youngest of four children and the only boy, and while Sheridan insists she doesn’t have a favourite, it’s obviously Ted.

High school mathematics teacher Sheridan is direct, practical and no-nonsense. At home, she’s happiest tending to her succulents and avoiding unnecessary socialising. In the kitchen, she brings organisation, reliability and a strong sense of order.

Ted is a confident youngest child who has always known how to stand out. He’s won the family’s Christmas cooking competition two years running, with Sheridan serving as judge. He’s passionate about golf, cars and anything with a competitive edge.

In the kitchen, their different approaches often spark lively debates. Ted loves experimenting with techniques he’s discovered online, while Sheridan prefers straightforward, hearty cooking. Together, they bring warmth, humour and plenty of personality to the competition.

Best friends for 15 years after meeting as teenage co-workers, Zoe and Zac are loud, competitive and always up for an adventure. This well-travelled duo plan to take out the competition with their eyes closed.

A passionate pescatarian, Zoe’s competitive streak is legendary among her friends. She’s even been banned from game nights because she always must win. Together, they bring chaos, comedy and creativity to the kitchen, pairing Zoe’s determination with Zac’s sassy sense of humour.

Zoe and Zac dream of opening a brewery in Newcastle, where they’ll brew their own beer, bake their own bread and serve up good vibes.

My Kitchen Rules returns on Tuesday at 7.30pm on Seven and 7plus.
