Richmond triple premiership hero Dion Prestia announces AFL retirement ahead of farewell game

Another domino has fallen at Richmond with Dion Prestia announcing his retirement from the AFL, following Nathan Broad in getting up for a farewell game at the MCG.

Broad last week confirmed he would hang up the boots rather than head home to Perth and play on with West Coast or Fremantle.

Now Prestia has also settled on walking away after facing St Kilda this Saturday.

“I felt like a Richmond Man from the very beginning,” he said.

“My decision to come to Richmond was not to prove what I could do, but to be a part of a club that I saw potential for greatness and didn’t we prove that right?

“This last 10-years has been everything that I ever dreamt of as a kid, kicking the footy in my front yard and imaging 90,000 fans screaming. Thank you, Tiger Army, for making this happen.

“To go there one more time and celebrate with a legend in ‘Broady’ and for (Tom) Lynchy’s 250th is going to make it extra special.”

The double retirement this weekend means Lynch, Toby Nankervis, Jayden Short and Noah Balta will be the only four 2020 grand finalists left on Richmond’s list in 2027.

More to come…
